RCI Foundation Calls For Papers In a continuing effort to support research, education, and the dissemination of information important to the building industry, the RCI Foundation, in conjunction with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, National Institute of Building Sciences, and the National Research Council Canada is issuing a call for papers concerning sustainable building envelope design. The two-day symposium entitled, the Symposium on Building Envelope Sustainability: The Future is in the Balance, will focus on evolving philosophies concerning the most cost-effective methods to address construction of sustainable building envelopes. This is an opportunity to share your knowledge of this important subject and make a difference in our industry. The event will be held April 30 – May 1, 2009 at the Marriott Wardman Park hotel in Washington, DC. The deadline for submitting proposals is November 1, 2007. RCI e-learning Program- Roofing Basics Updated The Roofing Basics online educational program has been updated and is available for enrollment once again at: [ www.rci-e-learning.org ]. User comments were collected during an introductory beta-testing period. For several weeks the program was taken offline while improvements were made based on student suggestions. The Roofing Basics program offers 4 Continuing Educational Hour (CEH) credits from RCI. The Member enrollment rate is: $260. Nonmembers can register for $320. RICOWI Seminar - September 6 in New Orleans The Roofing Industry Committee on Weather Issues, Inc.(RICOWI) is hosting a seminar Thursday, September 6, 2007 at the New Orleans Marriott Hotel in New Orleans, LA. Topics to be covered include: a hurricane katrina report, building codes, the application and performance of asphalt shingles, roof edge performance during hurricane force winds, weather related mitigation, battling hail with impact resistant roofing, and a RICOWI wind investigation program update.
