Convention Program Added: George
Smith of FM Approvals will offer a presentation of the FM
approval process at the RCI 22nd International Convention
& Trade Show. The discussion will be held Friday, March
2 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort
in Orlando, Florida. George Smith holds an MS degree in civil engineering and a BS degree in civil engineering from Northeastern University. He joined FM Approvals in 1974 and has over 30 years experience with building materials testing and certification of building products. Smith
is a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts.
He is also an active member of ASTM committee E05 on Fire
Tests, E06 on Buildings, and D08 for Roofing and Waterproofing.
Smith is the Chairman of the ASTM D08.23 committee on Laboratory
Accreditation of Roof Testing Laboratories. He represents
FM Approvals on the ICC-ES, Inc. Laboratory Accreditation
Advisory Council. |

E-learning Program: Furthering RCI's commitment to provide top-quality education to the building community, RCI is proud to announce the availability of the association's first e-learning program: Roofing Basics. Roofing Basics is an introductory level program which yields four Continuing Educational Hours (CEHs) from RCI. This online course offers students basic information of low-slope roofing and its primary role in the commercial roofing market. The program is available at the new RCI e-learning web site: [www.rci-e-learning.org]. For a limited time, through May 6, 2007, the Roofing Basics e-learning program is available to RCI members and nonmembers at special introductory prices. The RCI member price is $50 and the nonmember price is $100. The regular prices for this program will be announced and implemented after May 6. To receive CEH credits and a course completion certificate you must complete the course and achieve a grade of 70% or better on the course's final quiz. E-learning courses are a convenient, cost effective way to fulfill continuing educational needs at your own pace whenever you have time. There is no need for costly travel or hotel accommodations.
